Potatoes, chicken, and Cape Malay tomato bredie

Directions

  • Put the onion, water and cinnamon in a large pot and cook until tender.
  • Cook over low heat until all the water is absorbed.
  • Add oil and cook the onions until the onions are brown in color.
  • Put the lamb in and stir well.
  • Cover with a lid and cook on low heat for 30 minutes.
  • Add the tomatoes, peppers, potatoes, and spices. Cover again and cook over low heat until the potatoes are cooked through.
  • Sprinkle dish and serve hot.

Ingredients

  • 2 onions, chopped
  • 0.50 cup water
  • 2 tbsp minced cinnamon
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 800 g mutton, square
  • 450 g tomatoes, chopped
  • 1 red pepper, peeled and finely chopped
  • 3 mashed potatoes, cut into quarters
  • salt and pepper, to taste
